Habitat ELPALAFQUEN®.
Nahuel Huapí Lake Estimated area: 557 km Maximum length: 75 km Maximum width: 9, 65 km Maximum depth: 454 mt Due to its huge size and the influence of strong winds, we recommend the use of a Nº6 or Nº7 for both, shore or boat fishing. It is suggested a 8.5 to 9 feet long, a reel with no less than 100 yard reserve and moderate to quick sinking shooting (II to IV) . The best flies to use with this equipment are Wolly Buggers, Matuka, Rabbit, Marabou and Marabou Muddler in dark colours, tied in Nº2 to Nº8 hooks. Over protected shores, windless or with a shorter throwing distance Nº4 or Nº5 are effective with trouts up to 2 kg. In this case it is recommended a floating line or a full sinking ( II), steamers Nº 8 to Nº 10 and little dries, emergers or nymphs tied in Nº 10 to Nº 16. The ideal spinning gear is the medium one with a rod good enough to cast up 25 gr. From 2 to 2.40 mt long and a frontal reel with 150 mt capacity (0.25 or 0.28 mm nylon). When using artificials it is highly recommended the use of big spoons or Marabu jigs between 15 and 18 gr. Another good option can be the use of a buldo or atractors such as Bitch Creek, Leonis, Barbarus, Wooly Buggers or Black Leech tied in Nº 4 to Nº 10 hooks. Sheltered areas are recommended for the use of light equipment being artificial ones the most profitable: spinners between 5 and 10 cm, small jigs and fliers between 0 and 3 (specially recommended the use of Black Fury or Aglia de Mepps).

Limay River Great sized, deep and with a high rate of water flow, this river is the destination of almost all of the Atlantic basin´s rivers. The part of the river we make reference to here goes from the Nahuel Huapi until its confluence with Alicura reservoir. The equipment needed at the beginning of the season is practically the same as the one used for the Limay´s mouth. But by the end of the season considering the low flow of water rate it is possible to try fishing with nymphs or dries on lower sections, with light lines such as Nº 4 or Nº 5. Although the use of dries is not highly recommended, the most profitable ones are atractors like Bombers or Wulff in all its variety and tied in hooks from Nº 6 to Nº 12. This is not a river for beginners as in order to succed it is important to have certain knowledge on the course in depth and have casting skills that allow long distance shots. Specially by the start of the fishing season we suggest the use of a medium spinning rod, 2 to 2.4 mt long with 0.25 to 0.28 mm nylon. The most profitable artificials are spoons (20 to 28 gr), jigs or fliers between Nº 2 to Nº 4 , attached to small munitions for better sinking. By the end of the season due to the shortage of water fishermen should use light equipments but that means less possibilities to catch big specimen. In order to get these, dawn and dusk are the perfect moments to try. In this case use articulated artificials such as Rapala or Rebel between 10 and 15 cm long in dark colours, head and tail accionated. This technique is very much used in the lower section of the river during the months of March and April. This is the time when big brown males come from Alicura reservoir, reaching sometimes more than 6 or 7 kg.
